Ashleigh's Thanksgiving Essay for School
My Thanksgiving
By: Ashleigh Cole
4th period 11/19/2009
This Thanksgiving will be very special to me. I am looking forward to it more than any other Thanksgiving holiday. You may wonder why this Thanksgiving is more special than any other in the past. Can you guess why this Thanksgiving is special?
You might think this Thanksgiving is special because of family. The first part of the holiday I will go to my mom’s parents. The last part we will be spending with my dad’s parents. I will also see my aunts, uncles, and cousins. However, as much as I love seeing my family this is not why this Thanksgiving is special.
Another guess about why this Thanksgiving is special, is being out of school? I love being out of school! I don’t have to do homework or take any tests. I can sleep as late as I want without worrying about being late for school. As great as it is that is not my reason.
Surely the food would make this Thanksgiving special. This year we will be eating turkey and dressing at my Gee Gee’s, which is not my favorite thing to eat.
Have you figured out what makes this Thanksgiving special? What makes this Thanksgiving special is my new baby brother Alexander Mason Cole. This is his first Thanksgiving in America. If you don’t know who he is I'll tell you. Our family adopted him from Africa. He came to us starving for food and love. This Thanksgiving we will get to see him enjoy both!!

Orphan Sunday and Parent Child Dedication
During the service today, Alexander was dressed in a traditional Ethiopian outfit. He was very vocal and yelled, "heyyyyyy"! a lot leading up to the dedication time. As a parent, my first thought was to "shhhhh" him. However, I quickly remembered that just five months ago we met a little boy in Ethiopia who who didn't cry or make any sounds whatsoever. So, I whispered into his ear, "yell little man, you now have a voice, a family, and a home."
